InnovationX

InnovationX is an academic competition operated by the Florida Conference Office of Education Innovation Department. It is designed to inspire the next generation of innovators. Students compete in one of three categories: STEM+C Research, Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Students compete for more than $1,000 in one of three academic divisions:

 
STEM+C Research

STEM+C Research

The goal of this division is to encourage the students to apply the scientific method, the engineering design process or the software development process to conduct original independent research.

Deliverables

  • Literature Review

  • Trifold display board

  • Science/Engineering Journal

  • A 5-page paper

Social Innovation

Social Innovation

The goal of this division is for the students to create a social business that solves a social or environmental problem. Using the Design Thinking Process (Human Centered Design), the Students will select a social/environmental challenge and research it and launch a social business built around their solution.

Deliverables

  • Literature Review

  • Submit a systems infographic and 5-page paper with your findings

  • Develop a business idea to address the challenge

  • Submit a Social Business Model Canvas

  • Present at the pitch competitions

  • Trifold display board

  • Journal

  • Business Canvas

  Entrepreneurship

  Entrepreneurship

In this division the students will use the Design Thinking (Human Centered Design) and the Lean Startup Method to develop a service or invent a product that solves a real problem. It can be something that has not been made before or an improvement or addition to something that already exists but gives it a new purpose.  Students will launch a startup around their service or product.

Eligibility


Any student attending a Florida Conference School in grades 7 – 12 is eligible. Teams shall be composed of one to three students. InnovationX is a requirement of students enrolled in the Florida Conference Innovation Lab School.
